They say the days are long, and they were right!

I started The Indoor Parent as a mom at home with a toddler. I found myself trudging through the day, exhausted by parenting, adulting, and constantly trying to figure out what we were going to do next—or what we were going to eat next. I felt like I never got a break and never had a moment to myself.

One day, in a fog of decision fatigue, I gave our day a simple theme, and suddenly we had a plan.

Snacks, meals, activities, books, movies—many things we already had around the house, and sometimes a few new things—all became part of the theme. My daughter was excited, I had a plan, and the day felt easier because so many of the decisions had already been made.

My daughter is now 8, and we still use The Theme Formula™. Sometimes we plan around an event, like a Masters Theme Day. Other times, like our recent Ocean Theme, I wasn’t feeling well and just needed to get us to bedtime without losing my mind.

That is really the idea behind The Indoor Parent: fewer decisions, less overwhelm, and a way to make the days at home feel less daunting.

I love sharing our Theme Days—the ideas, the food, what we bought, what we already had, and how it all actually went.

When you’re ready to theme your way through the day, you’ll find my coloring pages, bingo games, apparel, and other ideas for your Theme Days in the Indoor Parent shop.
